Dr. Hong is a pediatric gastroenterologist. She has special interest in the management of eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), which causes inflammation of the esophagus, the tube that connects your mouth and stomach.
As EoE is usually linked to allergies, Dr. Hong cares for EoE patients at a multidisciplinary clinic at University of Maryland Children’s Hospital that addresses pediatric allergies to develop effective treatment plans for them. The multidisciplinary EoE clinic is one of only a few such programs in Maryland.
Dr. Hong’s other clinical interests include:
- Breastfeeding medicine
- Dysphagia (difficulty swallowing)
- Feeding difficulties
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (condition in which stomach acid repeatedly flows back up into the esophagus)
- H. pylori (a common type of bacteria that attacks the stomach lining)
- Inflammatory bowel disease (autoimmune disease that causes the body’s immune system to attack healthy bowel cells)
